Nancy J. Foster, attorney and mediator, is Director of the Northern California Mediation Center and has been mediating since 1988. She is an Advanced Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution Family Section, Immediate Past-President of Collaborative Practice Marin and serves on the Training Committee of Integrative Mediation Bay Area (IMBA). 

Nancy is also a trainer and a life-long student of conflict resolution. She has a passion for sharing what she has learned, integrated and synthesized so people can feel more at peace with themselves. Nancy’s mediation work has been grounded in her study of empathy skills for over 6 years with other attorney-mediators lead by a licensed psychologist (Tony Roffers) and of Powerful Non-Defensive Communication (PNDC with Sharon Ellison) for over 10 years. More recently, Nancy has been studying relationship and conflict coaching with Organization & Relationship Systems Coaching (ORSC), Academy for Coaching Excellence (Maria Nemeth), Receive Your Life Coaching System (Janice Campbell), Adult Development Theory (Chris Wahl and Barbara Brahm), Motivational Interviewing (Michael Wiles) and Conflict Coaching (Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution (CNDR) at UC Hastings.

A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Nancy specialized in commercial litigation, securities and real estate law for over ten years prior to becoming a mediator. As a trainer, she has presented at numerous law schools and professional conferences. She has also served as President of the Northern California Mediation Association (now ADRNC), Vice-President of Marin County Women Lawyers (MCWL) and Program Chair of the Marin County Bar-Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section. She also belongs to the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), and the Family Interdisciplinary Committee for the Marin Family Court.
